What makes the Extraordinary

Some of us want to change the world others are alright with the way things are not that any is better than the other, but one leaves a legacy visible to all the world through dedication unreasonable belief when only doubts exist, and new perspective. When you find a common thing and do it in an uncommon way that sets you aside it paves the way for the new it’s groundbreaking. Here are a few artists that have used their craft in extraordinary ways in art that inspires, commands attention and shapes the course of history.

Koffee

Koffee is one extraordinary new artist, the popularity she has gained in short amount of time is astonishing and a testament to the great music she produces. Giving reggae a new modern face yet without losing the roots of the truthful soul melodies. Hailing from Spanish Town Jamaica Koffee has come a long way and overcome leaps and bounds incorporating the rich history of where she comes from. When I first listened to Koffee I couldn’t get enough of ‘Toast’ and tried to find others like her, at the time there was no one like her giving life to reggae in a wholesome innovative way different from dancehall and the other subgenres that stem from reggae. Koffee is an original in the making and this is recognised by the reception she has gained. Big up JM!

Blessings all pon mi life and

Me thank God for di journey, di earnings a jus fi di plus (yeah)

Gratitude is a must,

J Cole

One can never go wrong with J Cole, and the reason he is extraordinary for me personally is that when you talk to people about their music taste, whether they like indie/pop, rnb or are just into British Grime or drill they always have love for J Cole. He supersedes the category of genre and has fans from all musical backgrounds. Sometimes you can’t deny the talent of great artists and safe to say I haven’t met anyone that dislikes him. So much of hip hop speaks of the realness and pain of life, commenting heavily of the black experience and might I add ongoing plight. J Cole doesn’t largely write lyrics about the happiest of things but rather critically analyses the discrepancies of society. The lyrics are reflective and therefore cause listeners to think and reflect also. ‘Immortal’ is one of those songs that is defining in understanding what it means to be impactful, great and extraordinary.

To die a young legend or live a long life unfulfilled

‘Cause you wanna change the world

But while alive you never will

‘Cause they only feel you after you gone, or I’ve been told

Nina Simone

Nina Simone is one of the most iconic black classical African American musicians of her time, not for her fame but her uniquely authentic presence – in voice and musicality. Simone started off as a pianist but soon started to sing as well with a distinct androgynous voice, in addition she was an activist for the black experience which is reflected in her music. In addition, she was a pioneer for hip hop in the years to come, as she heavily contributes to samples used in some of the greatest hip hop tunes; sampled by the like of Jay Z, Timberland, Kanye West and the list goes on. To this day I connect with her songs on a deeper level, the, and can only describe her music as powerful, moving, and a force forever.

But oh, I’m just a soul whose intentions are good

Oh Lord, please don’t let me be misunderstood
