Limited Access

Time + money = Access

An abundance of time and money are two things lead to unlimited access, they open doors, allow you to be free and enable dreams to become realities. If only it was so simple to acquire a great amount of these resources simultaneously, more often than not, the money is being earnt but there’s no time spend it with those we love, doing the activities we enjoy or chasing the dreams we desire. The key is given to us but can we even use it to unlock these closed doors. And the opposite is true, when there is time there isn’t enough money. These are things we all know and are aware of, but full access doesn’t have to be exclusive and only for the rich.

Yes money makes the world go round. But what if we focused on granting access on the basis of understanding and listening. Take music for example, first we must listen and then through understanding access the healing properties (truth) of the song. But what does this look like, what does it feel like? Joy. Big or small but all the same fulfilling. As understanding is an art and not everyone has taken the time to become an artist, true music being an artform is powerful and lacks boundaries, so it is in the mind to access the freedom it brings.

Kanye West – Late

I’ll be late for that, baby, I’ll wait for that

If you had a taste of that, you’d probably pay for that

‘Late’ takes on themes about access and its limitations, mainly based on the constraints of time. The way Western society is built, barriers are put in place when trying to access higher education. Kanye describes how he missed out studying what he wanted in university because he was late in registering for his modules. Time is a force of selective choosing, used to decide who stays in or out, especially in educational institutions and work.

They said the best classes go to the fastest, sorry, Mr. West

There’s no good classes, and that’s what yo’ ass get

Not even electives? Not even prerequisites?

You mean I missed my major by a couple of seconds?

Kanye wants freedom and believes that going to university will ensure financial security in the future ‘ Yeah, yeah, I don’t wan’ be broke when I’m thirty-one’, but following the theme of this album Late Registration and his first album College Dropout, there is a realisation revealed to us that pursuing music can lead to financial freedom and better aligns to his truth . This most definitely was displayed in the early stages of his career, as both these albums were highly impactful at the time and still are.

Sevdaliza – Bluecid

Being an artist means forever healing your own wounds and at the same time endlessly exposing them

Unknown

Sevdaliza is a highly artistic singer, her sound is unique and in my opinion she is understood by the few and not the many. Her music does reach the masses but it is not meant for the masses, Sevdaliza channels herself to the world through music, making her artform wholesome giving fans a much more visceral experience. Art that uncovers of the soul. However, due to the depth listeners get, Sevdaliza creates boundaries to preserve herself from public access. Not much is known about her personal life and she is an independent artist.

And I could only have you in my dreams

Oh, so it seems, so it seems

‘Bluecid’ is a captivating song, and the title relates to lucid dreaming in which the dreamer can control what happens in their dream, but usually this doesn’t translate to reality as we never gain total control when we’re awake. This song is metaphor for access, as humans we may yearn for a lover and want to grasp onto them but we shouldn’t feel entitled to have this person at our will. Many of Sevdaliza videos enchant viewers and might come across as dark in nature but there are layers of embedded meaning in her music that critique society’s relation between power, attraction and greed.

LayFullstop – Suits

I’m not a box that you gotta tick I am not here for your benefit

Won’t take part if you do it quick

The voices of the underground, artists whose sound the world hasn’t got around to hearing , struggle to be accessed. LayFullStop is a Manchester rapper with a lofi, smooth sound and an artist so ready to be heard. ‘Suits’ is about not fitting into the box, navigating life as an individual outside the conventional 9-5 lifestyle

See them in their suits getting noticed, don’t know what to do, don’t know what to say

Those who are outside of the norm should be allowed to share a seat at the table of success in order to be noticed, promoted, supported and most importantly accessed.
